Send praise, tips, and tags after each lesson
Student Engagement Automation in GHL helps you follow up when a student finishes a lesson. You can send a quick praise email, wait one hour, send a useful study tip, and add a contact tag. This simple step-by-step setup helps students stay active while GHL tracks their course progress for you.
When I set up this type of workflow, I focus on the first hour after a lesson ends. I’ve found that a quick note works better here than a broad reminder sent days later.
There is another reason to follow up after each lesson. Research on spaced learning shows that breaks between study sessions can help people remember what they learn.
This GHL workflow puts that idea into a simple process. The first email marks the win, while the next email gives the student a reason to return.

In this guide, you’ll set up the trigger, two emails, a one-hour wait, and a lesson tag. You’ll build a Student Engagement Automation that rewards progress, prompts the next lesson, and helps you track each student.

- Add a tag to track each student’s progress.
Why Student Engagement Automation Matters
When a student finishes a lesson, you have a good chance to keep them moving. They have made progress, and the course is still fresh in their mind. A short message at this point can help them know what to do next.
With Student Engagement Automation, you can send that message at the right time. You do not need to check each student by hand. GHL can respond as soon as the student completes the lesson.
Your first email can simply praise their progress. Keep it short and personal. You want the student to feel noticed, not like they just got another course email.
After one hour, you can send a useful study tip. This gives the student a short break before you invite them back. It also gives your second email a clear purpose.
You can then add a contact tag in GHL. This tag shows that the student finished the lesson. You can use it to sort students, track progress, or start another workflow later.
That is what makes Student Engagement Automation useful. You are not just sending more emails. You are using each completed lesson as a clear point to support the student and guide their next step.

Student Engagement Automation Tips
Your Student Engagement Automation does not need to be complex. Keep each message tied to what the student just did. When they finish a lesson, praise that progress first. Then give them one clear reason to keep going.
A few simple choices will also make your GHL workflow easier to manage as your course grows.
- Keep your first email short and focused on the lesson they finished.
- Give one useful study tip instead of sending a long list of advice.
- Use clear action names so you can scan your workflow with ease.
- Add a simple tag such as “Lesson 01 Completed” to track progress.
- Use the same workflow setup for other key lessons in your course.
- Match each email to the lesson or milestone that started the workflow.
Think of each message as a small push in the right direction. You are not trying to fill their inbox. You are using Student Engagement Automation to notice progress, guide the next step, and keep course tracking clear inside GHL.
How This Helps Your Online Course
Once your Student Engagement Automation is live, you have less follow-up to do by hand. When a student finishes a lesson, GHL takes care of the next steps. You can stay focused on your course while the workflow keeps students moving.
The lesson tag also gives you a simple way to see where each student is in the course. As you build more lesson workflows, those tags can help you sort students and plan what happens next.
- See who has finished a key lesson.
- Group students by the lessons they complete.
- Send messages that match each student’s progress.
- Start another GHL workflow after a course milestone.
- Use the same setup for other key lessons in your course.
You get a simple system that works in the background as students learn. Your Student Engagement Automation sends the right follow-up, records each milestone, and gives you a clear view of course progress in GHL.
Common Student Engagement Questions
Once you build your Student Engagement Automation, you may want to change how it works for other lessons. These common questions cover the trigger, emails, wait time, tags, and other settings you can adjust in GHL.
Keep Students Moving Forward
When a student finishes a lesson, you have a good chance to help them keep going. Student Engagement Automation lets you respond while that progress is still fresh. You can praise the win, share a useful tip, and point them toward the next lesson.
GHL handles the follow-up for you. It sends the first email, waits one hour, sends the next message, and adds a tag. You can see who has finished the lesson without checking each student by hand.
Start with one key lesson and keep the process simple. Once it works well for your course, you can use the same setup for other lessons that matter most.
Good follow-up should have a clear purpose. You are not sending an email just to stay visible. With Student Engagement Automation, you can respond to real progress, guide the next step, and keep your student records clear in GHL.
